Convenience store clerk Amy Hartman has been suffering from chronic insomnia ever since she joined the Sleeper Agency four years ago back in high school, as a half, or was it full?-hearted attempt to be somebody.
They never responded.
Barely getting by with no prospects, family, or happiness, the pain it takes for her to sleep is the only reminder of that dead dream. Until the day she gets a little card in the mail, one with a crossed out eye. One telling her to end the lives of everyone in the organization, and then herself.
And the rest get it too.
You've heard of the TV show. It ran while the world went to shit. It ended in gristle and blood even when the world wouldn't. But it was a graphic novel first. And before that, it was a set of roughs on the author's desk. They died to a Termicorp agent, in poverty. It's ironic even if it hurts to say so. These are those roughs.
